Applebarn
Pumpkin
Farm
Taves
Family Farm
The Taves Family has been
farming for three generations in Abbotsford, growing apples,
pumpkins, currants, and gooseberries, to name a few.
In 2000, Loren and his wife Corinne decided to increase the
variety of products they grew and purchased a glass
greenhouse, where they now grow Peppers, Heirloom Tomatoes,
Mini Cucumbers, Long English Cucumbers, Egg Plant, Lettuce,
Romero Peppers and an assortment of tomatoes.
The
Applebarn uses an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Program.
IPM is an ecological approach to farming with the goal to
significantly reduce or eliminate the use of conventional
pesticides while at the same time managing pest populations at
an acceptable level (using good bugs to control bad bugs).
The Taves family practices sustainable farming so that
we can bring high quality and safe produce to your table.
Loren and Corinne love and respect the farming lifestyle and
have chosen to raise their family with an understanding of
where food comes from and teach them the importance of
sustainable farming so that one day they too will be able to
farm this land for generations to come.
We hope that you enjoy the Applebarn’s fresh produce, and we
encourage you to visit us at the farm between September 1st
and December 23rd.

| Secret Garden
-
Ann Kent
Anne cannot remember a time when she was
not involved in growing things. From her early childhood she
pursued her love of flowers and fascination with plants. In
1992 Anne completed a Master Gardening course at vanDusen
Gardens. This enabled her to take a lifelong passion and
combine it with a business venture (Secret Garden); Initially
with perennial sales, and more recently turning her attention
to fresh flower bouquets. A seven-acre farm in the Bradner
area is the palette for her artwork. Flowers are harvested the
day before market, giving customers the very freshest possible
hand-crafted flower arrangements.

| Abundant
Acre
Family Farm
Andy and Cara Abrahams
Abundant Acre
Family Farm is a small, sustainable, local farm cultivating
great tasting vegetables with organic farming practices in
Greendale, BC.
Since
2009 we have been growing over 30 types of vegetables and
herbs – including Swiss chard, beets, broccoli, carrots,
cabbage, summer squash, potatoes, onions, shallots, tomatoes,
cucumbers, leeks, peppers, green beans, winter squash,
pumpkins, kale, spinach, parsley, basil, and summer savory.
In
addition to our Summer and Autumn CSA Garden Boxes, we also
sell our vegetables and encourage the local food movement at
local farmers markets.
We
think it is increasingly important for people to have good
food grown close to where they live. We enjoy meeting the
people at the market, talking about recipe ideas and being
encouraged by those who get excited about fantastic tasting
local vegetables like we do.
Although
we are not certified organic, our farming practices are shaped
by our conviction that farming should contribute to soil
health and be in harmony with the natural world. We don’t
use any chemical fertilizers or pesticides; we grow our
rotation of vegetables in healthy soil built up with composted
manures, natural rock powders and cover crops.

Blossom
Joanne Frances
A lover of great food and beautiful
flowers since childhood, Joanne, owner of Flowerhouse Wedding
Designs, enjoyed 15 years as a floral artist before marrying
her two loves, giving birth to Culinary Blossom in 2008.
Combining a family background of organic
farming and fabulous cooks with her passion and life-long
loves; she began growing organic edible flowers and created a
unique line of gourmet flower specialties, introducing them to
local markets in 2010.
Joanne’s philosophy is simple…if
it’s organic, sustainable, local, fresh and delicious,
it’s on the menu. Her mission is equally simple…to bring
nature’s goodness to her market customers!
From seasonally inspired preserves to fresh flower berry
salads, sweet treats and teas, to edible bouquets; you’ll
find a variety of offerings to tempt your senses!
Culinary Blossom goodies have absolutely no additives or
preservatives of any kind. They’re simply pure and natural;
the way nature intended them to be.
Drop by to say hello, we’d love to meet you!
Sample some specialties, munch on an edible flower or
pick up a new recipe idea. And while you’re there, have a
look at the storyboard to find out how it all came to be. See

Bluff Orchard
Scott and
Kathy Hanley
We
are a family run, 17 acre orchard located north of Oliver, BC,
near Vase Lake. Our family has been operating the farm for
almost 18 years. We grow a wide variety of fruit including
peaches, cherries, apricots, nectarines, plums, apples and
pears. We take pride in producing good quality fruit. We sell
our fruit direct from the farm, as well as at various farmers
markets. We go to farmers markets because the interaction and
positive feedback from our customers makes the time and effort
we put into growing the product more rewarding than selling to
wholesalers.

Okanagan
Harvest - Chris and Greg Norton.
Okanagan Harvest is a third-generation family
farm located in the
South Okanagan
.
We have been exporting top quality cherries
around the world for 25 years and are now changing our marketing to
sell at home to meet Canadians increasing demand for safe, wholesome
local products.
Our peaches are pesticide-free and tree-ripened.
Our dried cherries are preservative-free and have no added sugar.
Our cherry pit products use recycled fabrics and are non-toxic.
We are CanadaGap certified and have Food Safe certificates.
Our season starts in January with the seed
catalogues and pruning, greenhouses and transplants through till May,
thinning, weeding and watering till harvest…. We love to make things
grow!
Sharing the bounty with happy consumers is
gratifying! Especially when they share recipes and travel food
stories.
The
best part about market selling is the taste testing – isn’t that
yummy? A child’s face covered in cherry juice is just a smile in the
making. |

Brandson
:
Wyndson Farm
We live on a hobby farm in
the Bradner area of Abbotsford.
From a young child, I have always loved to make things.
I started selling my items at the Mt. Lehman Country Market
11 years ago, and was involved for many years in the operation of
that market. I am
currently a vendor at the Abbotsford (Saturday) and White Rock
(Sunday) Farmers' markets, and have been a director in both
organizations. I offer for sale a wide variety
of jams and jellies, many made with our own, naturally produced
fruit. I also have a
large display of sewn items, including heavy-duty shopping or book
bags, as well as aprons, tea coasies, and bibs. I grow flowers, which are sold in arranged bunches, and also
sell herbs, particularly basil, as well as salad greens and arugula.
Any extra produce or fruit from our garden is brought to the
market, including plums, apples pears and potatoes.
Look for our wild blackberries (not roadside!) in August.

Sweet
Delights
Julie Tegg
Sweet
Delights products are vegan desserts/baked goods. Free from
eggs; dairy; honey; animal-by-products; most items are free
from salt; no nuts are used; cholesterol free and lower in
saturated fat than conventional desserts.
The range
includes cupcakes; larger cakes made to order; cinnamon buns;
cookies & sandwich cookies; Nanaimo bars; tarts &
pastries including vegan ‘butter’ tarts; scones; breads
both sweet & savoury; muffins; brownies; blondies; fruit
slices; some items can be made gluten free on request. All
items are made from scratch and are home-baked with love.
I know
there are other sweet toothed vegans (and allergy sufferers)
who are unable to indulge in yummy goodies in conventional
stores/settings etc. Having baked for my friends and family
for many years I was encouraged to share my baking with
others. Facing a life changing move to Canada from the UK I
felt a change of career was in order too. So I simply dropped
the ‘n’ and went from Banking to Baking and haven’t
looked back since. I love the market settings as the majority
of the customers are so open and supportive of local artisans
and farmers. They appreciate the quality along with the time,
effort and love that goes into the production of the items on
offer at the markets. Not forgetting that it’s a whole lot
of fun getting out in the community, meeting new people and
building relationships with not just the customers but other
vendors and market staff alike.

Macdonald
Big Mac's Gourmet Specialties
I've had a lifelong interest in hot, spicy foods. I started growing
my own peppers about 6 years ago, am now growing up to 20 varieties
of hot peppers. I enjoy working in my garden and seeing the results
go into my jams, jellies and sauces. About 4 years ago, I started
with a hot pepper jam; giving it to family and friends. They loved
it, and encouraged me to produce more, try different combinations,
and here I am today. Looking forward to meeting people and selling
at the market.

Mike and Leah Todd
:
Valley Gold Bee Co.
 Four
years ago Leah bought Mike a single beehive as
a 'hobby' for a birthday present. That was the beginning of "valley
gold bee co." Since then they have grown to over fifty hives, which
are kept in Mission and Abbotsford. Mike is the "beekeeper" and Leah
prefers the jarring and candle making end of the business. They
produce a number of varieties of honey, depending on the nectar
source, including clover, blueberry, blackberry, and wildflower.
They also sell bee pollen and pure beeswax candles. They provide
honeybee swarm removal, as well as pollination services for local
farmers. They often bring a display hive to the market where you can
view the bees and queen hard at work through glass. Farm fresh honey
has a wide variety of health benefits and is great for baking,
sweetening tea and spreading on toast!

| David Perritt-
Grab-A-Java Coffee
In January 2005, Mission’s Grab-A-Java
became the first Canadian coffee roaster to purchase and
process Café Femenino coffee. In doing so, Grab-A-Java
supports organically grown, fair trade coffee plus coffee from
a women-founded cooperative that
works to mitigate gender inequality and female
marginalization in many coffee growing countries.
Café Femenino began in northern Peru in
2004 with a group of women who were used to doing most of the
work, while their often abusive husbands took the coffee to
market and made the decisions about how the family would spend
the money; often not in appropriate ways. The women came up
with the idea of separating their coffee from the rest of
production, offering it to importers around the world as a
distinct product and using the money from sales to improve
both their families’ lives and their production techniques.
Grab-A-Java continues to purchase Café
Femenimo products and also uses a portion of sales (including
sales at the farmers market) to help the Women’s Resource
Society of the Fraser Valley which provides shelter and
support for abused women and their children here at home.

Gesundheit Bakery
I was born in
Goeppingen,
Germany
and raised
for the first ten years in the small town of
Oberwalden.
My parents had a small farm there and we grew up learning about hard
work at an early age. I remember spending lots of time at German
Farmers Markets. My dad had stands at a large number of markets
selling bread. My grandmother used
to sell homemade jams and canned
meats and took me along. In 1983 we came to
Canada
and eventually my dad started
his first bakery in Lac La Hache BC.
This is where I learned
to bake the breads that I now sell at the Abbotsford Farm and
Country Market. With 20 years of experience, I can safely say that
I know a little bit about the breads I sell. All of our breads are
made with no preservatives, fat, sugar or oils. We use a well
controlled
rye sourdough for most of our breads which, along with our unique
recipes, makes our breads second to none. Try one of our many
varieties this Saturday at the Abbotsford Farm and
Country Market.

DELISH SOUP AND SALAD CO... is a BC family based company
located on the Surrey/Langley border. We are new to
the food industry, starting in the spring of 2010.
My name is Paulette Hawkings, and I love to cook. My
husband Keith and I raised 2 children and now have 3
grandchildren and we know how difficult it can be to feed
families healthy, tasty meals, especially with today's
busy schedules. It has become easier to buy already
prepared foods at the Supermarket, than prepare a healthy
meal from scratch. Time is a big factor...therefore
we have put together a selection of soups, salads and side
dishes that are visually attractive as well as delicious,
healthy and very easy to prepare. Aside from
enjoying them in your own home, they make lovely hostess
gifts, door prizes and fundraisers.

The
Ivy Oven is a very new vendor having begun business in the

There
are a few things that motivate us to offer our baking at
the farmers' market. First, we firmly believe good,
quality food is essential for healthy living. We are
striving to offer the highest quality of organic and
natural baking. We believe the farmers' market is an
excellent means to strengthen a community. As vendors at
the Market, we feel that we are contributing to this sense
of community, and making our local businesses stronger as
a result. Finally, we love baking and talking about food!
Our "world-inspired" theme allows us to exchange
stories of travels to various markets around the world.
