 Market Highlights


Not only are there still strawberries in the market, the raspberries are coming on strong and we can expect the first of the blueberries to make an appearance as well.


Derek Kingston will join us with his first-crop cherries. He should be able to pick three or four varieties including Bing.


Also check out the nutrition information booth. This space will be occupied each week by the Abbotsford Community Services Best for Babies program and has information in Punjabi as well as English.

Still some strawberry season left.                      


The garden (cultivated) strawberry was first bred in Brittany, France in the 1750s. It was a cross between wild strawberries brought to France from North America and Chile. Strawberries are now grown and widely used around the world. They are a significant source of vitamin C.


Strawberry Salsa

This salsa is a great accompaniment to chicken.



  • 1 1tbsp tbsp(15 mL) (15 mL) balsamic vinegar
  • 1 1tsp tsp(5 mL) (5 mL) liquid Valley Gold honey
  • 1/4 1/4tsp tsp(1 mL) (1 mL) coarsely ground black pepper
  • 2 2cups cups(500 mL) (500 mL) sliced strawberrystrawberries
  • 1/2 1/2cup cup(125 mL) (125 mL) halved green seedless grapesgreen grape
  • 2 2tbsp tbsp(30 mL) (30 mL) chopped fresh basil


In large bowl, whisk together vinegar, honey and pepper.

Stir in strawberries, grapes and basil. Let stand for 20 minutes.
